BROOKSIDE Crunchy Clusters make this a snack you’ll feel good about baking and eating.
1 cup (5-oz. pkg.) BROOKSIDE Dark Chocolate Crunchy Clusters
2 cups puffed rice cereal
1-3/4 cups uncooked rolled oats
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1/4 cup MOUNDS Sweetened Coconut Flakes
1/4 cup sweetened dried cranberries
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
CHIP DRIZZLE (recipe follows, optional)
Line 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan with foil, extending foil beyond pan edges. Break any large crunchy cluster pieces into smaller pieces; set all pieces aside. Stir together cereal, oats, almonds, coconut and cranberries; set aside.
Combine brown sugar, corn syrup and butter in 4-quart saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Cook and stir 1 minute. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla.
Stir in oat mixture, stirring until well blended and has cooled slightly, but is not becoming stiff (about 4 minutes). Quickly stir in crunchy cluster pieces, blending well. Firmly and evenly press mixture in prepared pan. Cool completely.
Using edges of foil as handles, lift cooled oat mixture from pan. Invert on cutting board; remove foil. Cut into bars. Drizzle or coat bar bottoms with CHIP DRIZZLE, if desired. Makes 24 bars.
Spread popcorn on wax paper-lined cookie sheet or pan. Place milk chocolate chips and shortening in small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at MEDIUM (50%) 1 minute; stir. If necessary, microwave at MEDIUM an additional 10 seconds at a time, stirring after each heating until chocolate is melted and smooth when stirred. Drizzle melted chocolate over popcorn. Immediately sprinkle crunchy cluster pieces over popcorn, pressing clusters into chocolate. Allow drizzle to set up; break into pieces. Store in tightly covered container in cool, dry place. About 8 cups popcorn.
CHIP DRIZZLE 1. Position bars on cooling rack with about two inches separating bars; place length of wax paper under cooling rack.
2. Place 1 cup HERSHEY'S Premier White Chips or HERSHEY'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips or HERSHEY'S Milk Chocolate Chips and 2 teaspoons shortening (do not use butter, margarine, spreads or oil) in small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at MEDIUM (50%) 1 minute; stir. If necessary, microwave at MEDIUM an additional 10 seconds at a time, stirring after each heating, until chips are melted and mixture is smooth when stirred. Drizzle melted chip mixture over bars or with small spatula coat bottom of bars; allow drizzle to firm. Store covered in cool, dry place.
